He went to Riverview High School from where he received his high school graduation. During his school days, he used to play American football. For his higher education, he attended the University of South Florida after earning an academic scholarship. He was studying business as his major subject but dropped his college after two years.

Early wrestling career

His father started training as a wrestler under Jim Neidhart in the autumn of 1994. He started training with his father and went for several training sessions. He also got inspired after meeting a third-generation wrestler, Harry Smith. He participated a twenty-man cruiserweight Battle royal for the Independent Professional Wrestling promotion. He was the part of stable “Risk Factor” alongside Kid Lethal and The Kamikaze Kid. Later, he formed a tag team with his kayfabe brother, Sedrick Strong. In 2004, he made his Full Impact Pro (FIP) debut facing Austin Aries. He marked a win against Bryan Danielson in a title-versus-career match on November 10, 2006. He was part of the storyline with The Undisputed Era (Bobby Fish, Kyle O’Reilly and Adam Cole). He was one of the participants of the 2018 WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament where he defeated Hideo Itami in the first round. He became victorious against Kalisto in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals, he lost to Cedric Alexander on the March 13 episode of 205 Live.
