Colton filed a case against wrestler/ actor/ mixed martial arts commentator Phillip Brooks (CM Punk) alleging breach of contract and fraud due to Brooks’ alleged agreement. He was seeking $200,000 in damages and $1 million as punitive damages. In response, CM Punk filed a counterclaim for $600,000 and the law case was the talk of the town. The cases were dismissed in September 2019 and the settlement concluded without involving financial compensation.

Alongside CM Punk, he was trained by Kevin Quinn, Ace Steel and Danny Dominion. He made his Ring of Honor (ROH) debut as CM Punk’s rival with the name Colt Cabana and later joined Steel and Punk as the Second City Saints. With Punk. He turned two–time ROH Tag Team Champion. He also defeated Punk on August 13, 2005 in a two out of three falls match.

He started feud with Homicide between August 2005 and April 2006. After a Chicago Street Fight on April 1, 2006 in Chicago, he earned respect of Homicide and got his revenge. After the victory, he unsuccessfully challenged the ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson who defeated him within five minutes.

With fellow ROH stars Adam Pearce and Dave Prazak, he got in an auto accident in October 2006. Following the weather conditions, he lost the control of the car while he was driving from ROH event in Dayton. Colton was supposed to have a toe amputated but went through bruises. He wrestled in multiple preliminary matches in WWE and also wrestled with ring name Chris Guy in one of the occasions. The ring name was the real name of his trainer Ace Steel who also used Colton’s real name i.e. Scott Colton in 2004.

It was announced that he signed a contract with the company on April 3, 2007, where he was initially assigned to Ohio Valley Wrestling. On May 30, 2007, he made his debut at a TV taping. He lost to Michael W. Kruel for being determined as an opponent against The Miz at an OVW live event in the first round of a tournament.

On June 23, he marked his first win in Ohio Valley Wrestling by forcing e Belgium Brawler to submit. He also marked multiple wins against wresters like Shawn Spears which made him earn the OVW Television title on October 31, 2007. He was moved down to FCW when OVW was replaced by it.

He made his debut as Scotty Goldman on the August 15, 2008 episode of SmackDown where he lost to The Brian Kendrick. He participated in a 10-man battle royal match on the August 22 episode of SmackDown where he got eliminated by Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins. His last single match on the brad was against The Great Khali who defeated him in a short time. On February 6, 2009, he participated Elimination Chamber where he was first to be eliminated. On February 20, 2009, he was released from the contract with the company. On the day, he lost to Umaga.
