Khali and his wife welcomed their first child as a daughter named Alveeen Rana on 26 February 2014, in a hospital in Houston, the United States. Their daughter was born a day before them celebrating their 12th wedding anniversary.

He was born to parents named Jwala Ram (father) and Tandi Devi (mother). They come from the Dhiraina village of Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district. His parents were very poor and faced financial problems frequently.

Early wrestling career
After moving to the United States, he started working for All Pro Wrestling (APW) under the ring name Giant Singh. He made his first appearance in October 2000 where he partnered with Tony Jones to face the West Side Playaz. He moved to San Francisco where he signed with World Championship Wrestling (WCW). He worked for the promotion for eight months until the promotion being acquired by WWF.
Team 2000 leader, Masahiro Chono offered him for New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) along with Brazilian big man, Giant Silva. Rana was signed as Giant Singh and his partnership with Giant Silva made them the tallest tag team in professional wrestling history. Singh was defeated at Wrestling World 2002 after being pinned by Hiroyoshi Tenzan in January 2002. He faced Giant Silva in a singles match where he got defeated after a falling out at Tokyo Nippon Budokan. He has also wrestled for various promotions like Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) and All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW).
Did Brian Ong die after receiving a flapjack from Khali?
When Rana was wrestling for APW as Giant Singh, Brian Ong died after receiving a flapjack wrestling move on 28 May 2001. Brian had suffered a previous concussion but was given a lower evaluation by the trainers and suggested him to continue training. After the investigation, it was known that Brian did not receive protective gear or supervision from the promotion and the second concussion made him dead. A case was filed against APW who was found liable for recklessness making Brian’s family receive compensation of US$1.3 million.
Signing with WWE
He signed with WWE on 2 January 2006, making him the first Indian wrestler to contract with the promotion. He started wrestling under his real name for the developmental federation, Deep South Wrestling.
Feud with The Undertaker
In April 2006, he made his first appearance on WWE television as a villain where he attacked The Undertaker who was facing Mark Henry which made the match to a no-contest ruling. Rana was introduced as ‘The Great Khali’ being managed by Daivari who stated that Khali would destroy The Undertaker. On 21 April episode of SmackDown!, he made his in-ring debut where he successfully defeated Funaki.
He became the hand-picked opponent of John Bradshaw Layfield against World Heavyweight Champion Rey Mysterio. He got victorious against Mysterio in a squash match. On 21 May 2006, he faced The Undertaker and got victorious with illegal help from Daivari. He continued displaying his power and won multiple handicap matches. He used to mock The Undertaker’s signature pin.
On July 25, 2006, he was scheduled to face The Undertaker at The Great American Bash for a Punjabi Prison match. He wasn’t medically approved to participate the match which made him replace by Big Show. However, Big Show lost the match despite the interference made by Khali. When Khali received medical approval, he got challenged by The Undertaker to face for the Last Man Standing match. Khali lost the match marking his first definite loss in WWE.

Raw and SmackDown
It was announced that Khali signed with Raw on 8 January 2007 episode of Raw. However, Daivari remained at ECW. Khali faced John Cena and defeated by disqualification. He delivered a chokeslam on Cena after which Cena was attacked by Umaga.
Khali got victorious against The Highlanders (Robbie McAllister and Rory McAllister) after which he demanded tough competitors. He interfered in a Falls Count Anywhere Money in the Bank qualifying match after four days on SmackDown where his interference made King Booker won the match against Kane. This caused a feud with Kane whom he faced at WrestleMania 23 and got victorious after choking him with a hook and chain at the end of the match.
He attacked three top contenders to the WWE Championship at the time including Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton and Edge on 30 April episode of Raw. He also attacked then WWE Champion John Cena and gave a message that he has now kept eye on the title. He participated in a number one contender’s match for the WWE Championship where he defeated Shawn Michaels at Judgement Day. However, he lost to Cena via submission for the first time. His foot was under the rope but the referee couldn’t notice that.
He appeared with his new manager and translator Ranjin Singh. He lost again to Cena in a Falls Count Anywhere match marking his first loss by pinning in a singles match.
He was drafted to SmackDown! as the brand’s first draft pick as part of the 2007 WWE draft on the 11 June episode of Raw. He started a new feud with Batista. Khali won a twenty-man battle royal on the 20 July edition of SmackDown! making him earn vacated the World Heavyweight Championship. On 22 July, he defeated both Batista and Kane at The Great American Bash in a triple threat match. Later, he introduced a two-handed claw hold as his new finishing move named the Khali Vise-Grip. He used this move against Kane, Batista and Ric Flair. His new feud began with Rey Mysterio who won a Championship Competition. Khali used his Visa Grip on Mysterio who was rescued by Batista who came with SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long. Khali lost his title later in a triple threat match on 16 September. He lost the rematch against Batista in a Punjabi Prison match at No Mercy.
He started troubling Finlay by assaulting Hornswoggle. On 17 February 2008, he participated in an Elimination Chamber match between The Undertaker, Batista, The Great Khali (with Ranjin Singh), Big Daddy V (with Matt Striker), Finlay and Montel Vontavious Porter (MVP). The match was won by The Undertaker pinning Batista at the last for earning Heavyweight Championship match.
On 30 March 2008, he completed a twenty-four man battle royal at WrestleMania XXIV. Kane won the matchmaking him a challenger for ECW Champion Chavo Guerrero. Khali faced Big Show at Backlash on 27 April where he got defeated.
His new feud began with Triple H for the WWE Championship. He became victorious in a battle royal involving MVP, Big Show, Jeff Hardy, Mr. Kennedy and Umaga making him earn an opportunity to face Triple H at SummerSlam. However, he lost to Triple H after receiving a Pedigree on 17 August. When Khali was facing Jeff Hardy, he was interrupted by Triple H and eventually he lost the match.
As per new storyline, he feuded with Dolph Ziggler in May 2009. Khali who was attacked with a steel chair started taking revenge by coming out to the ring during and after Ziggler’s matches. He tried Ziggler to stop cheating. Ziggler made it look like Khali has hit him with a steel chair which made Ziggler the winner. On 28 June, they faced The Bash where Khali lost after being attacked by returning Kane. Khali lost to Kane at SummerSlam and Breaking Point
He took a break for his knee surgery but made a surprise appearance as a judge for the Raw’s Got Talent segment on the 2 November episode of Raw. On 14 December episode of Raw, he made his official return where he teamed with Kane and Christian to defeat the team of William Regal, Ezekiel Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov.
With his manager Ranjin Singh, he was drafted back to the Raw brand in 2010. He took hiatus in order to participate Indian show, Big Boss where he turned as the runner up. He made his return at the 2011 Royal Rumble where he eliminated Husky Harris but was eliminated shortly by Mason Ryan. He was injured by The Miz who lost to Khali by disqualification. On April 3, 2011, he won the Interbrand dark match battle royal where he lastly eliminated Sheamus. As part of the 2011 supplemental draft, he was drafted back to SmackDown on April 26. The following week, he appeared at The Rock‘s birthday party dressing up as the Tooth Fairy. He also supported Jinder Mahal who was making his WWE debut. Mahal also interrupted his match against Jey Uso as Mahal raised the question on Singh’s mismanagement of Khali.
Mahal shoved Ranjin Singh where Khali used his Vise Grip on Singh indicating Khali as Mahal’s bodyguard after which Khali assaulted Mahal’s opponents. Later, Singh revealed that Khali is obeying Mahal because he is their brother-in-law and disobeying him would make Mahal divorce their sister. Their alliance ended after a match against WWE Tag Team Champions Air Boom (Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston). Khali successfully defeated Mahal 23 September episode of SmackDown. The following week, he lost to World Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry.
He made his return to WWE by participating at the Royal Rumble on 29 January 2012. He was the number 15 entrant where he eliminated Jinder Mahal and Ezekiel Jackson but got eliminated by Dolph Ziggler and Cody Rhodes. He saved Justin Gabriel from Rhodes, Hunico and Camacho on the 3 February episode of SmackDown. Later, he was announced as the replacement to Mark Henry for the World Heavyweight Championship at the Elimination Chamber. He was eliminated by Big Show at Elimination Chamber on 19 February.
He became the number one contender to the United States Championship by winning a 20-man battle royal. On the 2 January 2013 episode of Main Event, he lost to defending champion Antonio Cesaro. He was seen participating in the 2013 Royal Rumble match where he quickly got eliminated by Kane and Daniel Bryan. He was eliminated by Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins (The Shield) in the 2014 Royal Rumble match in 24 seconds of entering the ring. Khali’s contract with WWE expired on 13 November 2014, after which he left the promotion.

Return to WWE
He made his return to WWE on 23 July 2017 at Battleground as a heel where he assisted Indian wrestler Jinder Mahal in a Punjabi Prison match against Randy Orton for the WWE Championship. He was mentioned on WWE.com as WWE’s active roster but was shortly removed. His second return after 2014 was recorded at The Greatest Royal Rumble match on 27 April 2018, where he was eliminated by Bobby Lashley and Braun Strowman.
